Michael Richards is a UK-based, largely self-taught artist specialising in illustration, still life and dog portraits. Working mainly in pen and ink, coloured pencils and acrylic, he values drawing as an end in itself rather than simply a precursor to painting.
This site includes a section called Illustration & Narrative Drawing. The distinction seems an important one to me. While some drawings do illustrate a sentence or an idea of some kind, others are from the imagination - yet there remains an inner narrative which informs their creation.
He was a member of the Ipswich Art Society, has exhibited in a number of mixed shows and won the Crane Kalman Award at the Society of Graphic Fine Arts Annual Exhibition in 2016. He has also illustrated a book, Inside Conducting by Christopher Seaman.
